When the pandemic hit, one of the ways I let off steam was learning how to use GarageBand, a digital audio workstation. I never thought I'd make electronic music, but I fell in love. From putting together pre-made riffs and beats to programming my own synths and drums, it has been a wild and fun learning curve.
Poetry and music have long been friends. Read any lyrics by Eminem or Counting Crows and you'll see that it's poetry, sometimes sung to a melody. Each piece I make, I decide on a "feel" for the song based on the poetry, and I let it build itself. It's therapeutic and I think music and poetry make each other better.
On May 10th, 2021, I am finally releasing my first official album, CHIASM. This EP features 5 poems read aloud with music crafted around it. Watch the teaser video below to find out more! I'll update this page with links when the album is available.
Iambic Beats is the artist name I chose for spoken word poetry set to music. Iambic refers to a type of poetry rhythm (as in iambic pentameter). And beats is self explanatory!
Artwork featured on this album cover is by the incredibly talented artist, Shannon Mastromonico (IG: @moth.magic).
